Rideau Park School is a dual-track elementary school, which means that two programs from Kindergarten to Grade 6 are offered in the same school: English and German Bilingual.

Elementary curriculum is outlined in provincial programs of study, which identify what students are expected to learn and do in all subjects and grades.  The curriculum is designed to help students achieve their individual potential and create a positive future for themselves, their families and their communities. See what students are expected to learn in each grade, including overviews of subjects and topics. Click here

All English students take French as a Second Language (FSL) beginning in Grade 4. In this program, French is taught as a subject to develop communication skills in French and an understanding and an appreciation of the cultures of French-speaking peoples.

  • Rideau Park is a Leader In Me School

Rideau Park is a Leader In Me School

"We only get one chance to prepare our students for a future that none of us can possibly predict. What are we going to do with that one chance?" Stephen R. Covey

At Rideau Park School, we are a community of leaders. Through our Leader in Me Program, which utilizes the principles of Stephen Covey's The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, our desire is for students to become leaders in their own right while feeling unique, important and worthy. By providing meaningful leadership and citizenship opportunities, we know students will reach their true potential as leaders and fine citizens in our community. Students are taught to think with the end in mind, set goals and be proactive in their learning, while developing strong 21st century literacy and citizenship skills across the curriculum.

The world has entered an era of the most profound change in human history, creating new challenges for today's students. Meeting these challenges will require a different skill set than previous generations. In an effort to provide our students with key skills vital for the 21st century, we teach these habits through the Leader in Me process.

    • Habit 1: Be Proactive® - You're in Charge
    • Habit 2: Begin With the End in Mind® - Have a Plan
    • Habit 3: Put First Things First® - Work First, Then Play
    • Habit 4: Think Win-Win® - Everyone Can Win
    • Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood® - Listen Before You Talk
    • Habit 6: Synergize® - Together Is Better
    • Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw® - Balance Feels Best

Through this program, we teach a generation of leaders one child at a time.

We encourage and support all students to take on at least one leadership role at our school each year. Each spring we hold a leadership fair, after which students apply from among the following roles:

    • Patrollers
    • Grade 6 Leadership
    • Student Council
    • Office Helpers
    • Morning Greeters
    • Technology/Special Events team
    • Kindergarten Leaders
    • Morning Announcement Leaders
    • Lunch helpers
    • Door/Office Decorators
    • Photography Leaders
    • Art Room Organizers

Principal's Message

"Transforming the Learners of Today into the Leaders of Tomorrow"

We would like to welcome you to our fine school- a special place where every day students, staff and families work together to help students dream big and achieve their best. Our school offers programming in Kindergarten to Grade 6 in both English and German.  Rideau Park School is located in the mature residential community of Rideau Park in southwest Edmonton, just off the Whitemud Drive.

At Rideau Park, we are a community of leaders. Through the integration of Stephen Covey's The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People into our curriculum and activities, we provide students with the tools to develop essential life skills and characteristics they will need for success in the 21st century. With this program, our objective is to help students discover their own strengths, while allowing teachers to find opportunities for all children to grow in their abilities and confidence – and become leaders!

Our dedicated staff works in partnership with our students, parents and the community. We believe that the quality of education is enhanced when home and school have a strong, respectful relationship and ongoing, regular communication.

Together, we are committed to assisting all students to realize their personal best. Within a caring and positive learning environment, our students are encouraged to set high goals for themselves in terms of their academics, behaviour and citizenship.

Above all, at Rideau Park we aim to develop learners, leaders and citizens who are caring, helpful, innovative, collaborative, respectful, confident, resilient, reflective, and knowledgeable - skills that are essential to becoming engaged, successful participants in our society.

Rideau Park is a place where minds and hearts grow every day. We are a school our students are proud to attend.  We hope you join our community of learning!
